It's worth a thought.

The history of St. Valentine's Day is actually quite interesting: http://www.history.com/topics/valentines-day. It's not a "Hallmark holiday" per se, but I agree its definitely over-commercialized.

You perked me up with your Boycott Sign - since I'm divorced, I'd rather celebrate - yahoo, I'm not married to the Abuser Day.

However, I will accept cupcakes from random celebrants at work. Yum

    Is it Valentine's Day? Wink
Seriously, it probably wouldn't even be a blip on my radar except for the elementary school V-day parties/card exchanges. I haven't spent one cent, and don't intend to. (Er, might spend $1 tomorrow for next year's cards, but it's cheaper than DIY paper and ink).

I am not much one for commercialized holidays.

I am so delighted this year as my youngest is in middle school now and they don't do the whole card thing anymore. It was a bad enough holiday when it was just cards, but now it's all candy and when your child is allergic to most candy it's just a nasty hassle of a day for him. I'm not anti-the-sentiment, but I am anti-buying-the-sentiment of Valentine's Day.
