Anyone have a Target red card?

August 15th, 2012 at 10:38 pm

I've been thinking of getting one for a while now. What's not to like. Free shipping and 5% off all purchases? i think that's pretty great. Not that I shop there all that often, but I do from time to time, and free shipping is music to my ears.

Free shipping, eh? Is there an annual fee for the Red card?

I've thought about it, because I only get 3% at Target using my Amex (supposed to get 6% for groceries, but Target counts as a department store). 5% there, 6% on all my other groceries would be pretty sweet, and I didn't know there was free shipping.

No, there is no annual fee. If you shop there with any regularity, who wouldn't want to save 5%?

Ceejay74, have you thought about buying target gift cards in the grocery stores with your Amex card and then paying at target with gift cards? That way you can be getting 6% cash back.

Yes, they started offering the "5% off" around the time we got a grocery store at our Target. I have never had a department store card (aside from one-time use like furniture or appliances), and I am not thrilled to carry *another* credit card (just more to keep track of). But the 5% is too good to pass up.

The only other store-specific card I'd consider is literally our primary grocery store. We just don't shop anywhere else very regularly. But groceries are pretty regular! (& is also where we buy most our auto fuel - so would be two hits in one).

That's an interesting idea, Max! I'll see whether my grocery store carries those...

Well, yes, I do have a Target Red Card. I lived three minutes from a SuperTarget and now live just five minutes from one. Since I shop there so much, it seemed worth it to get it.

There is no annual fee and you can get a debit or credit card. The debit withdraws directly from your bank account for each transaction.

I noticed recently that we have saved over $250 on Target purchases. It shows on your receipt. That means we have spent over $5000 since the beginning of the year. Yikes, but it is groceries, gifts, clothing, personal toiletries and kitty litter. It does add up!

I had originally planned to literally save the 5%, but it has been too hard to keep up on. Maybe next year...or next month!

I LOVE my Redcard. Really--my family is SO sick of hearing about my 5 percent savings, but it's hard to go into Target and not spend $100 sometimes. Somehow the Redcard helps me remember target printable coupons (which are fantastic) too. I don't like store cards either, but this is my one exception.

Also, if you want to support a local school, you just sign up and they give the school 1% of all purchases.
