More of my Mother's art

July 23rd, 2015 at 08:56 pm

Here's more art for Kiki and others who may enjoy seeing some of these... These are just representative samples.

My mother's passions were weaving and painting (although she also did photography). She found a way to combine these two loves by creating what she called "woven paintings." She would paint on canvas first, then cut up the painted canvas into horizontal or vertical strips which she then wove back together on the loom. Galaxy and Origami in Flight below are good examples of this technique.

If you see anything you like, let me know and I can give you a little more info on it, like the dimensions, title if not shown here (not all are labeled) and medium, price. I apologize in advance for my poor photography skills.

Your mom is very talented. Are there people that have bought her work in the past? They might be interested in adding to their collections. Is there an online store where you could sell her work, like an Etsy? Or perhaps a gallery in the area that would be interested?

Yes, I have thought of contacting previous buyers. My mother kept records of everything. All of this takes a lot of time, something I am in short supply of. No doubt I will be doing things like this for the coming winter and beyond. There are 2 local galleries that have expressed interest in continuing to show her work. One of them has about 6 of her pieces now and the other I have to bring work up to, one of these days. But you could go months without a sale. It's a very slow and time-consuming process.

Etsy is a good idea, or artfire, but I suspect shipping might be cost-prohibitive. (I really love the "Regatta" piece but it looks large, and I suspect, especially if you add shipping, it will be out of my budget! Smile I should think you'd have no problem selling a lot of these pieces, though, they're beautiful!)

Our local library has a meeting room where artists can display their work for a month in exchange for donating a percentage of the sales to the library. Is there anything like that in your area?

    Your mom is very talented!

In total envy as your mum is super-talented. Love origami in flight. You are doing a mighty job in dealing with so many treasures.
