What? No immediate credit card approval?

March 19th, 2015 at 12:14 am

So I found another credit card deal I wanted to pursue...spend $3500 in 4 months (that's $875 a month) on a new US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature Card and you get $200 back.

I was surprised when they didn't give me an on the spot approval; instead, they said it was "under review" and that I'd get a decision by mail in 7 to 10 business days.

They asked for my employer, my income and housing payments. Perhaps it was the fact I put $0 under housing payments since I paid off the mortgage.

Hmm.....

Anyone familiar with this card?

I checked my blog and in January 2014, I applied for a US Bank Cash+ Visa. I also did not get immediate approval. It appears it took two days to hear, which I would guess was by email. Make sure you keep track of your reward offer as I they didn't have my 'offer code' on file when I inquired about my $200 reward. Luckily I had a mailed offer that I saved and was able to refer to. Then they were able to confirm I was eligible. Not as customer friendly as some other cards we are used to. Smile

I'd presume if it's a new promotion, they've been inundated with applications 1st from their regular clients and now from all who watch for these financial events like so many here at SA. It's free money for those who track spending or have special expenses planned like yourself for home renovation, and who most importantly, pay their CC balance in full to avoid interest charges.

There was a period when there were several new cards being introduced but that seems to have run it's course. Is there a site that tracks new CC promotional offers?

We've gotten random delays like that from time to time. Don't think we've ever gotten declined. It'll show up in a day or two.

snauf, there are many sites where you can look for credit card offers, like creditcard.com, bankrate.com, creditcardhub.com, etc.

creditcardfree, yes, i always do a screen shot of the offer and save it on a word doc in the off chance they say i didn't apply for the promo offer. after all the effort i put into tracking my spending on such a card, i don't want to risk not getting the bonus.

PS - I've had that happen before - when I applied for the Swagbucks card I didn't know I'd been approved until I received the card in the mail a week later ...
