Joint New Year's Resolution: You & Me

December 22nd, 2014 at 12:56 am

If there's one New Year's resolution I'd like to achieve, it's losing 10 lbs.

I don't usually do too well with resolutions, but if I had someone to be accountable to, it could make a difference. So I was thinking, is there anyone out there who would like to join me in a weight loss resolution?

Here's what we would do:

1. On New Year's Day, weigh yourself and put it in a post entitled New Year's Resolution. Along with your starting weight, describe as specifically as you can how you plan to lose the weight and the deadline by which you want to lose it by.

Speaking for myself, I would like to lose 10 lbs. by March 31. That's a reasonable time period, I would say.

2. Then, every Saturday, weight yourself and put that weight in a blog post with extra info if you can, describing your successes.

I haven't done a group diet with others before, but I'm sort of hoping that with that extra little nudge from others who might join me that this will be enough to keep me motivated to eat right and exercise.

So how about it? Is anyone interested? If so, let me know and on Jan. 1 let's all get started!

Yes, I'm in! I've gained weight since we moved, I know, but I've been bad and not weighing myself. Well, I finally got my friend's elliptical moved in to our house from storage, so I'll be ready to get back to my goal weight. Not sure where I am right now, somewhere in the 130s/140s, but my goal is 127. I'll base my time frame on how much I need to lose from my Jan 1 weigh-in.

I'm willing to join in, although I might not want to post my actual weight. I'm willing to post pluses/minuses and my plans on how to do it. Ten pounds by March 31st sounds very doable.

I'm in, too! I started at 144 and am now 130. I'd like to be about 115-118 with regular exercise and a solid nutritionally based diet. And some 5K times in the high 20s. I hovered at 33 at my last one.

I'm in for sure but I'm with FrugalTexan75. No way that I'd post my weight on line. I can barely look at the scale without blushing.

Do whatever is most comfortable, guys. I think I will also post how much I walk on days that I do walk and any other notable stuff.

I will post my official starting weight on Jan. 1, but I can tell you now I'm at about 140, which is just too heavy on my small frame. I'm going for 130 although truth be told, I'd LOVE to get down to 125, which is about what I weighed in high school.

Since I have a very sedentary desk job, and already walk some lunch hours, I think a lot of my weight loss will have to come from making my portions smaller and not eating so many sweets or pasta, rather than exercise. I will make a concerted effort to exercise more on weekends, despite winter temps, but not as much room there to make improvements as there are in my diet. I still have not been able to kick my bad pasta habit.

Great! I hope we can all inspire, motivate and threaten each other, as needed, to achieve the desired results. Smile
